KOCHI: Hindustan Lever Ltd's soaps unit at Tatapuram here has been accredited with the coveted TPM Excellence award, becoming the first manufacturing unit in Kerala to be presented with this award.

A team of auditors from Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) carried out an audit to assess the unit's commitment and level of implementation of TPM (total productive maintenance). They also remarked that the quality of TPM practiced at this 85-year old unit is quite comparable with newer units, a press release issued here said.

HLL Tatapuram unit, which manufactures Lifebuoy soaps, Sunlight and 501 detergent bars, has initiated steps for TPM from 2001, the Factory Manager, Mr Sandip Dutta, said.
