Our Bureau

Kochi , Nov 20

A MIXED trend persisted for almost all varieties of tea at the Kochi tea auction. Though the dust sale witnessed a good general demand, it was comparatively low for leaf varieties.

Of the quantity of 12,23,000 kg on offer in the dust category, best liquoring and high priced CTCs were easier by Re1 to 2.

Good medium and lower priced CTCs were steady. Orthodox highgrown dusts were lower and mediums also tended to ease.

As per the figures made available, Forbes, Ewart & Figgis Pvt Ltd, the best CTC varieties commanded prices between Rs 48-65, medium CTC realised Rs 42-48 and below medium were quoted Rs 20-25.

Highgrown BOPD fetched prices between Rs 60-100, while medium BOPD realised Rs 35-38.

The leaf sale witnessed only a fair general demand and the quantity on offer was 3,94,000 kg. Highgrown Orthodox was irregular and easier. Mediums barely steady, while plainer CTC's at bottom level were dearer by Re1 to 2. CIS exporters were selective on highgrown Orthodox. The best Nilgiri varieties commanded Rs 47-68, medium orthodox realised Rs 38-48.

The best CTC leaf fetched Rs 37-42, while medium CTC leaf realised Rs 32-34. In the dust category, Kodanaad Cl.BOPD fetched the best prices of Rs 100 followed by Pasuparai FD by Rs 92. In the leaf varieties, Chamraj OP realised the best prices of Rs 104.21 followed by Kodanaad Cl.BOPF by Rs 99.01.
