Bajaj Allianz General policy for e-consultations abroad

BAJAJ Allianz General Insurance Company Ltd has introduced a new medical insurance product branded as E-Opinion Rider.

Speaking to reporters here, Mr S. Sreenivasan, Chief Financial Officer, Bajaj Allianz, said the product would cover the expenses of second opinion e-consultation services for serious illnesses in India.

This product would come with a personal accident cover up to Rs 50,000. The e-opinion, an extended version of telemedicine, would allow patients to consult with some of the internationally renowned hospitals.

Mr Sreenivasan said that for offering this medical cover, Bajaj Allianz has tied with WorldCare International Inc. WorldCare is a pioneer in the development/distribution of global e-health services and solution.

In the event of serious illness, policyholders may elect to have their respective medical records, including text and medical imaging digitised, encrypted and sent to WorldCare's Telemedicine headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

The records would be onward transmitted to the telemedicine centres of the Cleveland Clinic, Duke University Medical Centre or Partners HealthCare for specialist review.

A written second opinion, including a confirmed diagnosis and recommended treatment plan, would then be conveyed to the patient.

For onward transmission of diagnostic quality images, Mr Sreenivasan said, Bajaj Allianz was setting up a digitising hub in Pune.

These medical insurance covers would be offered also as group medical covers with discounts, he said. For individuals, the premium would be Rs 476 per annum, he added.
