Juniper to double headcount here

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Nov. 23

JUNIPER Networks, which opened its new technical centre in Bangalore on Wednesday, plans to double its headcount in India to around 650 by the next year-end. Built at a cost of $8.5 million, the new centre will integrate employees located at its two dispersed facilities in Bangalore and focus on the engineering work currently done in the US.

Mr Sridhar Sarathy, Managing Director of Juniper's India operations, said the laboratory at the new centre would support the company's product development by testing systems and solutions. The headcount of the Bangalore centre would be ramped up from the present 325 to about 650 by the end of next year, he said. The centre accounts for 10 per cent of Juniper's global workforce and covers the full spectrum of engineering activities, including software and hardware development, system testing, and technology documentation and assistance. Mr Sam Srinivas, Vice-President and Chief Technologist, Juniper Networks India, said the company is serving the world's top 25 telecom carriers and 77 per cent of the `Fortune 100' firms.

Juniper, which focuses on network intensive businesses globally, reported revenues of $1.3 billion in 2004, up by 91 per cent from 2003. The company has a workforce of 3,784 employees in 70 countries.
