ABN-Amro shortlists micro-credit bodies for excellence awards

ABN Amro Bank and PlaNet Finance India have shortlisted 54 micro-finance institutions (MFIs) to move to the final phase of the prestigious Micro-finance Process Excellence Awards 2006.

In a press release here on Wednesday, they said these 54 MFIs belong to 16 States across the country. Of this, Andhra Pradesh has the distinction of having the largest number of selected nominees - eight MFIs in the three categories of the awards.

The awards have been categorised depending on the size of the MFIs - `Flint' for young and emerging institutions, `Flame' for mid-sized established institutions preparing for rapid growth phase and `Fire' for the large and established institutions, the release said.
