HSBC opens yet another service centre in Hyderabad

Hyderabad , Nov. 24

HSBC today commissioned its fifth global resourcing facility in the country and the second in Hyderabad, with 3,500 seats in a 2.5-lakh sq ft built-up space.

This facility would serve both as a knowledge process outsourcing (KPO) centre for financial transactions, as also a training facility that can host 400 at a time.

The HSBC Chairman, Sir John Bond, said the company's facilities at Hyderabad, Bangalore, Visakhapatnam and Kolkata currently employ about 10,000 people.

The Chief Operating Officer of HSBC Global Resourcing, South Asia, Mr Malcolm Wagget, said the Hyderabad centre employs about 6,000 people and Visakhapatnam 1,500.

The overall growth in numbers hinges on the nature of work the group expects the Indian centres to handle.

Refraining from giving any figures on overall investment or increase in headcount, Mr Wagget told a press conference that everything depends on demand. The training centre would focus on improving management, language and soft skills. Some of the training would also be open to outsiders.

Asked if the HSBC group would like to provide processing services to third-party companies, Mr Wagget said the company would continue to remain a captive centre servicing the group.
