DSIR to promote indigenous R&D

Visakhapatnam , Nov. 25

THE Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) under the Union Ministry of Science and Technology is keen on promoting indigenous capabilities in industrial research and development, according to the adviser to DSIR, Dr A. Lahiri.

He was speaking at a one-day workshop on technology development, utilisation and transfer conducted here jointly by the DSIR, the Federation of Andhra Pradesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FAPCCI) and the Commissionerate of Industries, Hyderabad.

Dr Lahiri called for strengthening of collaborative efforts between industries and R&D institutes and explained as to how the DFIR was trying to popularise technology transfer through the technology information facilitation programme.

Dr Lahiri said the DSIR was dealing with the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and 1,200 industries, 500 scientific research institutes and 700 public-funded universities and deemed universities.

The Director (Operations) of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Mr K.K. Rao, called for the development of the entire coastline on the lines of China to optimise exploration of ocean wealth. The FAPCCI President, Mr C.V. Atchut Rao, who presided, said that Visakhapatnam had bright prospects for industrial growth.

The District Industries Centre General Manager, Mr L. Laxman, and the FAPCCI Managing Committee Member, Mr A. Satyanarayana, also spoke.
