Apollo Sindoori focus on health food

Ambar Singh Roy

Kolkata , Dec. 1

IF you have become a sudden convert to health foods, you may find that the packets of fruits and vegetables that you think have become just right for your system are co-branded or have passed the health foods standards of Apollo Sindoori of Chennai, the hospitality business subsidiary of the Apollo Hospitals group.

The Rs 50-crore turnover Apollo Sindoori is in the business of providing housekeeping and food services to all Apollo hospitals and to select companies.

Its focus in the hospitals is to give patients the best in terms of foods "even if that means experimenting with different cuisines," says Ms Srilatha Reddy, Operations Manager.

From November 24 to 26, Apollo Sindoori and Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals jointly held in Kolkata eastern India's first Health Food Festival.

"With the Health Food Festival we could showcase various ways of making healthy and tasty food for people suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart diseases, " says Ms Reddy.

Adds Mr V. Satyanarayana Reddy, Chief Executive Officer of Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals: "With regard to preventive healthcare, we already reach out to our corporate clients and educate them on how to inculcate healthy food habits and lead healthy lifestyle. Over time, we wish to reach out to as many members of the public as possible in this regard".

According to Mr Reddy, the Health Food Festival has, perhaps, ignited a business idea.

How about co-branding health foods or certifying the same for the retail market? "We have not thought of such a diversification venture as yet but it is a business idea worth looking into. However, if we do venture into such an activity, it would be with the preventive side of healthcare in mind and not for profits," says Mr Reddy.
