Swiss Air plans services from South

K.V. Kurmanath

Hyderabad , Dec. 2

SWISS International Air Lines Ltd is planning to start its services from at least one South Indian city — either Bangalore or Hyderabad.

"We are weighing options -- whether to launch our own flight or enter into a code-share agreement with some airline," Mr Desmond Chacko, Marketing Manager (India) of Swiss Airlines, told Business Line.

Though it has not been decided yet on the type of service, a shift is likely in favour of the latter option. "It could possibly be a code-share arrangement," he said.

He, however, did not give any timeframe for the launch. "Our plans are for the mid term," he said.

"It will be like complementing (the partner) rather than competing with it," he added.

The airline had entered into a code-share agreement with Air Canada to offer its services on the New Delhi-Zurich sector. It runs its own flights from Mumbai. "The advantage in code-sharing is that we are able to service our market without adding additional capacity," he said.

Mr Chacko was here as part of the countrywide roadshow organised by Switzerland Tourism.
