Kochi , Dec. 5

THE Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Assocham) has decided to make Kerala the focus State next year. It has proposed to organise several events in Kerala to showcase the State's untapped investment potential to the world.

Assocham is organising an `Arab Conference' at Kochi in January 18, to promote business with the Arab world, Mr Anil K. Aggarwal, Assocham President, said. He said ambassadors and economic experts of nearly 20 Arab countries are expected to participate in the conference, which would focus on improving economic co-operation with Kerala.

He pointed out that several prominent Gulf-based Keralites and Presidents Chambers of Commerce would also be invited to the conference.

Investment potential in IT, health and general tourism, and real estate development will be showcased during the one-day meet.

The Kerala Chief Minister is being invited to take part in the discussions, he added.

A day after the event, Assocham will hold its managing committee meeting for pre-Budget discussions. Around 200 business houses in the country, including the Singhanias, Tata Group, the Birlas, Reliance, HLL and the Thapars, are expected to attend the meeting.
