Airlines Marketing - New Products & Services SriLankan launches flight details on mobiles Our Bureau
Thiruvananthapuram , Dec. 7 SRILANKAN Airlines has introduced a new service that enables anyone with a GPRS-enabled mobile phone anywhere in the world to check flight details. Mobile phone users with General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)-enabled phones can obtain information on SriLankan's flights by browsing the Web site http://gprs.srilankan.aero, says a press release issued by the airline. While the flight information currently available on the site covers only SriLankan Airlines, it will soon include details of flights of other airlines that operate through Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport, the release adds. Details available through this service include flight number, departure time, destination, arrival time, type of aircraft and so on. The site gives both local time and universal time, and shows flights that are in the air in green and flights on the ground in blue. When a particular flight is in the air, the site gives updated estimates of time of arrival and shows the actual time of arrival when a flight touches down. A link on the site offers users an opportunity to explore the airline's detailed flight schedule, the release says. In addition to SriLankan's flights to 48 international destinations in 27 countries, the Web site also includes flight information on SriLankan Air Taxi, the airline's domestic arm.
