THE West Bengal Government will soon seek the advice of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for restructuring its transport sector, which comprises several loss-making public sector corporations.

According to the State Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, the global consultancy major is already helping the State Government restructure its electricity board, another loss-making organisation.

"PricewaterhouseCoopers is already helping us to restructure the West Bengal State Electricity Board. Once it is over, we would like to take their help for restructuring our transport sector," Mr Bhattacharjee said.

He was addressing employees of PwC at its new 1,00,000-sq ft modern facility at Salt Lake Electronics Complex. It might be noted that PwC started its operations in Kolkata in 1880. The company is also celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.

Mr Bhattacharjee welcomed the advice given by PwC for restructuring its ailing public sector units. According to him, as per the advice of PwC, the Government had decided to close down a number of these units and for the rest it would be joining hands with private sector companies.

The State IT Minister, Mr Manabendra Mukherjee, urged the PwC officials to set up the firm's university for management and accountancy training in this city. He said the State Government would extend all help for the project.

Mr Roopen Roy, Managing Director of PwC, said the new facility would be a global training centre and would accommodate 1,000 professionals.
