Chamber plans event series in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram , Dec. 8

THE Chamber of Commerce Thiruvananthapuram is planning to organise a series of business and consumer events in the city.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr M.R. Narayanan, President of the Chamber of Commerce, Thiruvananthapuram, said the idea is to organise four or five events in the city every year.

In 2006, the organisation plans to hold an agricultural fair and an information technology fair on the lines of `IT Kerala' organised by the State Government, he said.

In fact,, the organisation is upset at the State Government's decision to shift the `IT Kerala' event from Thiruvananthapuram to Kochi from next year onwards, he added.

A major problem in Thiruvananthapuram is the lack of a proper exhibition and convention centre, Mr Narayanan said. In an effort to solve this problem, the Chamber of Commerce is working with various groups to set up an exhibition hall in the city, he said.

The investment in this project is expected to be around Rs 2 crore. The organisation will approach the State Government to obtain land for this venture, he added.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Commerce is organising `Arogya 2005' an event on alternative systems of medicine in the city from December 24 to December 27.

The event, which is likely to be held every year, will focus on alternative systems of medicine such as ayurveda, siddha, unani, naturopathy and homeopathy among others, Mr Narayanan said.

In addition to a series of seminars, the event will also include an exhibition by healthcare companies from across the country. Entry to the event will be free.

Dr Anbumani Ramdoss, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, is scheduled to inaugurate the event. As part of the event, to be held at the Chandrashekaran Nair stadium in the city, awards will be presented to the `best ayurveda company in Kerala' and the `best stall' at the exhibition.
