Internet user base up 54%

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Dec. 8

INDIA'S Internet user base has grown by 54 per cent to 38.5 million as of 2005-2006 from 25 million in 2004-2005, according to the Internet & Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), which did not specify the date in 2005-2006 for which the count is valid.

IAMAI estimated the total e-commerce market in India at Rs 1,180 crore for the current year. This will double during the next calendar year to Rs 2,300 crore, it said.

The organisation attributed this growth to the impact of the broadband policy as well as to the IT and Telecom Ministry's focussed pursuit of introducing sub-Rs 10,000 PCs.
