Our Bureau

Coimbatore , Dec. 9

TECHNOLOGICAL advancements in design and product improvement initiatives in pump manufacture is expected to have a positive impact in the industry's performance in the coming days, said Mr Vijay R. Kirloskar, Chairman and Managing Director, Kirloskar Electric Co Ltd.

Delivering the keynote address at the two-day National Conference on Pumps organised jointly by the CII, Indian Pump Manufacturers' Association and the Southern India Engineering Manufacturers' Association here, Mr Kirloskar said "an integrated and holistic approach to the product development process starting from the customer and not the product" was the need of the hour.

"Improving product innovation, reducing product development time and direct material cost, removing non value-added processes, improving collaborations, reducing engineering changes and warranty costs are the key drivers for manufacturers to sustain and compete in the business," he said.

According to him, the pump industry would witness sweeping changes with advancements in software and design technology.
