International agri body to work on improving output

Hyderabad , Dec. 16

THE Alliance formed by CGIAR (Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research) affiliated international agricultural centres would carry out coordinated effort specific research in five areas to improve agricultural productivity.

The alliance, formed last week at the Annual General Meeting of the group held at Marrakesh (Morocco) recently, will work in the areas of biodiversity conservation, genetic enhancement, high-value commodities, natural resources management and policies.

The CGIAR is an association of countries, organisations and foundations supporting the 15 international agricultural research institutes located in different regions of the world.

Announcing this at a press conference, Dr William Dar, Director-General of Icrisat, a CGIAR constituent, said the alliance would increase convergence and collective action among the CGIAR institutes.
