Coimbatore , Dec.19 ALONG with the booming export trade, table egg shippers from Namakkal are also encountering the problem of price undercutting by some unscrupulous elements to win temporary gains in the market. To counter this, the Namakkal-based All-India Poultry Products Exporters Association (APPEA) is contemplating introducing floor price for export of table eggs. As part of the export trade regulation within the sector, APPEA is also planning to evolve a credit control mechanism which will hand out a definite payment terms by insisting on either the "cash against delivery" or the letter of credit routes for egg exports, said Mr P. Valsan, Secretary, APPEA. Mr Valsan told Business Line that the proposed floor price for export would be based on the existing farm-gate formula adopted by the National Egg Coordination Committee in the Namakkal zone for the domestic market. At present, the credit period for the egg shipment prevailing in the market is between 30 and 40 days but some new players who made entry into the market of late are believed to be offering steep discounts affecting the market sentiment. The longer credit period adopted by some is also causing cash flow problem for traders. According to Mr Valsan, his association is also planning to have a mechanised facility for egg grading with the financial support of APEDA which will enable the sharpening of the egg export initiative in the region.
