Infrastructure Govt plans to develop Thiruvananthapuram airport at Rs 256 cr Our Bureau
New Delhi , Dec 20 THE Minister for Civil Aviation, Mr Praful Patel, today told the Lok Sabha that a major programme was under way for the development of the airport at Thiruvananthapuram. "Very soon, a high-class international terminal will come up there. The pre-public investment board (PIB) meeting has already happened and the PIB will meet in the next month or so," Mr Patel said. The Minister was replying to queries raised by Members during a discussion on `the need to improve the infrastructure at airports in view of the increase in passenger and cargo traffic'. The cost of the Thiruvananthapuram project has been estimated at Rs 256 crore. The Minister also said that a proposal has also been received from Kerala Government for the development of an airport in Kannur. "We will have to go in for a greenfield airport there. We are now in discussions with the State Government in this regard. The airport will become a reality in the near future." Besides, the project for development of Tiruchi airport would be taken up as part of the first phase of a plan to develop 10 non-metro airports, Mr Patel said.
