Wilderness Resorts to set up eco-tourism chain

"Cicada aims allow tourists to experience `wilderness vacations' under a single umbrella.

Bangalore , Dec. 21

WILDERNESS Resorts Pvt Ltd, a start-up eco-tourism company, has announced an initial investment of Rs 45 crore to launch a resort chain across country.

Mr Phaneesh Murthy, CEO of iGate, will be one of the investors in the venture. Mr Murthy will be contributing to the initial capital through his newly created fund PM Ventures.

Mr T. G. (Tiger) Ramesh, who was a co-founder of IT start-ups, including Bangalore Labs, announced the launch of the new company. He said that Mr Murthy, apart from being an investor, could lend strength to Wilderness Resorts with his acumen in branding and marketing. (The resort chain will be named Cicada).Wilderness Resorts has already identified four properties in Kabini near Nagarhole, Bandipur and Bhadra in Karnataka. It plans to set up 50 resorts across the country in five years through the development of green field projects and acquisitions. Wilderness has been promoted jointly by Mr Ramesh, Mr Murthy and Mr H. B. Jairaj, Chairman of BRB Group, a local hospitality company.

Mr Ramesh, CEO of Wilderness Resorts, said Cicada aims to be a premier eco-tourism resort chain in the country and would allow tourists to experience "wilderness vacations" under "a single umbrella."

He said the company's strategy is to integrate the local people and the eco-system to promote "responsible eco-tourism." People living around the resorts would be assisted to set up businesses to provide the essential requirements of the tourists.
