Cable operators in a fix on HC order of only `U' certificate movies

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Dec. 24

THE Bombay High Court's recent decision restraining cable operators from showing any film that does not have a `U' (unrestricted) censor certification has created a problem of sorts.

Cable service providers feel that they are merely distributors of content created by broadcasters and hence, want the order to be revised.

The other option for them would be to block these channels.

After a meeting between multi-system operators and the cable operators, sources said the option of moving the Supreme Court was being considered to seek a review.

If the order is not revised, transmission of Hindi and English movie channels could be stopped till the channels register themselves in India in accordance to the latest downlinking guidelines.

According to these norms, all TV channels beaming into India have to register in the country by May 11, 2006.
