New Delhi , Dec. 24

ALMOST a year after the tsunami struck the Southern coast, the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, is planning to revisit the region to review the rehabilitation work.

Dr Singh announced this at a meeting with senior officials on Saturday where a detailed presentation was made on the steps taken to provide relief, ensure rehabilitation and facilitate reconstruction.

An official statement said that a range of schemes covering ex-gratia relief, scholarship to children, psycho-social support measures, capital relief to fishermen, and universal health insurance were funded through the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund.

A total expenditure of Rs 900 crore would be incurred over a 10-year period, with Rs 500 crore allocated for the first three years.
