Vizag port sees record throughput in Dec

THE New Year has started with a bang for Visakhapatnam port, with the monthly throughput for December 2005, amounting to 55.01 lakh tonnes, the highest ever achieved by an Indian port.

According to a press release issued by the port authorities, the VPT broke its own earlier record of 51.06 lakh tonnes handled in March 2005. During the current fiscal, so far, the total cargo handled by VPT is 41.1 million tonnes, an increase of 14 per cent over the cargo handled during the corresponding period last year (36.2 million tonnes). The target for the current financial year is 55 million tonnes.
