Agricultural Institutions ICAR preparing report on future farm co-operation with US Our Bureau
New Delhi , Jan. 2 THE Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) is preparing a report on future co-operation in the farm sector between India and the US. The blueprint would be presented during the second meeting of the `India-US Knowledge Initiative' starting on February 12. "We have set up four committees headed by agri-scientists to identify in detail the future areas of co-operation in agricultural research with the US," the ICAR Director-General, Mr Mangala Rai, today said. The four committees will prepare basic draft on priority areas such as human resources, agri-processing and marketing, biotechnology (use of byproducts and biofuels) and natural resource management (primarily water management). The reports of these committees would be ready by January 16 and would then be discussed further. ICAR plans to have a series of consultations with various stakeholders from the private and public sector units as well as with vice-chancellors of agricultural universities to work out the modalities of co-operation, including funding options.
A final blueprint, which would be put forward to the Union Agriculture Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar, for approval, is expected to be ready before the first week of next month.
