Our Bureau

New Delhi , Jan 3

THE National Tax Tribunal Act 2005, which is legislation passed by Parliament in the winter session, has been notified.

Under this legislation, the National Tax Tribunal (NTT) would hear cases on substantial question of law from the decisions of the Income-Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) and the Customs, Excise and Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT).

The NTT is being set up with an objective of speeding up taxation matters that are currently pending before the High Courts.

Under the direct and indirect tax enactments, an appeal lies in the High Court on a substantial question of law.
