Tea Cold comfort K.K. Mustafah
A tea plantation worker in Udagamandalam in Tamil Nadu taking a nap during a brief spell of sunshine. Extensive damage to crops has been reported from various tea growing pockets of the Nilgiris with frost hitting the low lying areas. Charring of leaves, stunted growth and drop in juice content in leaves have led to an almost 50 per cent loss of the crop. Thalakundah, Emarald, Avalanche, Najanaad, Naduvattam, Kil Kotagiri and Kundah tea belts are among the worst hit areas in the frost attack.
