Mumbai , Jan. 8 FOR tourists keen to book a room at a property run by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), reservations will soon be a click away. MTDC said it plans to launch an online reservation system that would enable tourists to make reservations and payments on the Net. The system, which would be available on the MTDC Web site, www.maharashtratourism.gov.in, would provide information on the availability of rooms at various resorts, besides allowing cancellations and alterations in booking dates. The Web site will have brief profiles of all the destinations, forts, beaches, caves and other tourists' sites in Maharashtra. The Web site will also be updated with the latest position on the availability of rooms and services at various destinations and resorts. The system will allow reservations on the Deccan Odyssey, a luxury train run by MTDC, which is targeted at high-end travellers and foreign tourists. Mr Prithviraj Patil, General Manager, MTDC, said that the system would be especially useful for the foreign tourist who would now have access to the corporation's entire inventory of rooms. This, he said, allows them to plan their itineraries better. The system would accept credit card payments in rupees or US dollars. The feedback received from tourists had shown there was a need to provide an online reservation facility, pointed out Mr Patil.Tata Consultancy Services had been given the mandate to implement MTDC's online system, he said without divulging the investment involved. Tourists making a booking on the system would have to pay a minimum of 20 per cent of the booking value, with the remainder being made 30 days prior to their departure date.
