Bank credit up Rs 46,622 cr

GROSS bank credit increased by Rs 46,622 crore for the fortnight ended December 30, 2005 to Rs 13,52,482 crore, according to RBI's Weekly Statistical Supplement.

This is inclusive of food credit, which decreased by Rs 535 crore to Rs 41,920 crore and non-food credit, which increased by Rs 47,157 crore to Rs 13,10,562 crore.

Total accommodation provided by scheduled commercial banks to the commercial sector in the form of bank credit and investments in shares, debentures, bonds and commercial paper was at Rs 13,73,041 crore as on December 23, 2005.
