Commissioner sends report to State Govt on Toyota stir

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Jan. 17

THE Labour Commissioner is learnt to have sent a report to the Karnataka Government on the issue of the Toyota-Kirloskar strike.

Sources in the Labour Commissioner office said that it is now left to the State Government to take a decision on the strike. A Toyota Kirloskar official said that since the strike began, the company has faced a shortfall of 532 vehicles. It has however, been able to produce 200 vehicles so far and expects to scale up the number to around 50 per day from this weekend onwards.

Workers at the factory went on a strike on January 6 after the company refused to keep in abeyance dismissal of three employees.

"We are facing no delay in delivery of vehicles so far and whatever shortfall we have faced will be made up soon," the official said.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor employees' union spokesperson said that the agitation would be intensified. "The response we are getting is extremely good. Nobody wants to go back to the factory," he said.
