Bank credit rises by Rs 20,771 cr

Mumbai , Jan. 20

GROSS bank credit increased by Rs 20,771 crore for the fortnight ended January 6 to touch Rs 13,56, 869 crore, according to Reserve Bank of India's Weekly Statistical Supplement.

This is inclusive of food credit which increased by Rs 2,087 crore to Rs 43,099 crore, and non-food credit which increased by Rs 18,685 crore to touch Rs 13,13,770 crore.

Total accommodation provided by scheduled commercial banks to the commercial sector in the form of bank credit and investments in shares, debentures, bonds and commercial paper was at Rs 13,92,951 crore.
