Pune , Jan. 23 CORPORATE India can soon breathe easy on its concern about the security and safety of its frequent traveller employees, against the backdrop of increasing terror attacks and political strife in various parts of the world. Travel services management company American Express announced that it is in the launch-planning stage of Track Point, a security product that allows corporations to use data provided by it to continually track its employees wherever they are. The product is being pilot tested in Australia currently and the company expects to launch it in the Asia-Pacific soon, Mr Andy Aitkenhead, Vice- President and Head of Travel Operations for Japan-Asia-Pacific-Australia, said. "The data provided by us on the flights used by the traveller and his hotel reservations among other things will enable companies to track him and establish contact," Mr Aitkenhead said. "Increasing security issues and terror attacks in various parts of the world have resulted in increased customer interest in our security suite of products," he added. Meanwhile, the company is betting big on business in the domestic market as a strong economy and rapid globalisation take large numbers of business travellers to destinations across the world. "We are investing heavily in tapping business travel globally and India and China are two of the most rapidly growing markets for this strategic business segment for Amex," Mr Aitkenhead said. "We want to tap not just the large multinationals but also mid-size companies which are increasingly travelling abroad. Companies can save up to 25 percent on their business travel and entertainment expenses with proper travel management services," he said. Meanwhile, Pune's IT and ITES companies and its rapidly growing manufacturing sector have resulted in a spurt in air travel to foreign destinations, according to Amex which estimates corporates in the city will spend over Rs 500 crore on business travel in 2008. "With the city emerging as a strong business hub and existing companies here looking for an effective tool for managing their business related expenses, we want a part of the potential business,'' he said. Amex also opened its Business Travel Services Centre in the city last week.
