Chennai , Jan. 26

TACO MobiApps Telematics Ltd (TMT) plans to market `trako', its vehicle tracking system, more aggressively among owners of truck, taxi and ambulance fleets.

TMT, a joint venture between Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd and MobiApps Holdings Pvt Ltd, Singapore, launched `trako' nine months ago.

Mr Praveen Gupta, Chief Executive Officer, TMT, said this tracking system enhances the operational efficiencies by tracking the location of vehicles and consignments, collating and recording information about unscheduled stops, off-route movement and over-speeding. The system also tracks technical data, which includes fuel level and battery charging voltage.

The system serves as an alert mechanism by detecting accidents through the two-way communication it maintains with each driver and assists in ensuring early paramedical help in case of accidents.

TMT uses the global positioning and mobile technologies such as GSM, GPRS, CDMA and other terrestrial networks to maintain services. The system is priced at Rs 15,500 and a monthly fee of Rs 500 for communication and Web hosting facilities. The company has invested Rs 10 crore in this venture.
