Shipping Visakhapatnam port handles all-time high of 5.5 mt cargo in Dec Our Bureau
Visakhapatnam , Jan. 26 VISAKHAPATNAM is maintaining its prime position among the major ports in the country for the sixth year in succession and so far, 44.7 million tonnes of cargo has been handled, according to the Chairman, Mr K. Ratna Kishore. While addressing the gathering in the port stadium here on the Republic Day, he said the port had also established a national record, by handling 55.01 lakh tonnes of cargo during December. Besides, several other records were created in the handling of llmenite sand, timber, muriate of potash, coking coal and steaming coal, he said. The port railways had also registered a growth of 3.20 per cent. He said the second BOT berth, EQ-9, had become operational since September and there were also plans to allot one or two berths for the exclusive use of alumina exporters.
