Thiruvananthapuram Rly division to offer more facilities

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram , Jan. 26

THE Thiruvananthapuram Division of Southern Railway is set to introduce more passenger-friendly facilities in the course of the current year.

One of the major thrust areas is improving the passenger information system by introducing touch screen facilities, coach guidance system, train arrival display and unique telephone enquiry numbers, Mr. S. Vijayakumaran, Divisional Railway Manager, said here on Thursday.

A full-fledged centralised call centre will shortly be commissioned in Thiruvananthapuram, which will reduce the pressure on information counters at the stations.

Mr Vijayakumaran said the Thiruvananthapuram division was the first in Southern Railway to complete the new "unreserved ticketing system" in 16 stations. This system would be introduced in 10 more stations next year.

The passenger earnings of the division touched Rs 220 crore by December-end compared to Rs 191 crore in 2004-05. On the freight front also, the division achieved Rs 58 crore.
