Bank unions call for strike on March 9

Our Bureau

Thiruvananthapuram , Jan. 27

THE United Forum of Bank Unions, consisting of nine unions in the banking industry, has called for a token strike on March 9 demanding restoration of compassionate appointments in banks and granting one more option to the employees to join the pension scheme.

Mr P.K. Patnaik, General Secretary, National Confederation of Bank Employees, and Secretary, All India State Bank of India Staff Federation, said in a statement here on Friday that the compassionate appointment scheme was withdrawn on the ground that a cash compensation scheme had been announced. The forum is also against the Government's move to introduce a new pension scheme.
