Rubber Rubber continues to rise Our Correspondent
Kottayam , Jan. 27 GUIDED by domestic short supply and firm overseas indices, another record closing was observed in the domestic spot rubber market on Monday. Major manufacturers remained inactive possibly to cool down the overheated sentiments but covering groups continued to lift the prices to further highs, taking advantage of the gap between the demand and supply positions. Sheet rubber RSS 4 closed at Rs 77.50 against Rs 77 a kg at Kottayam and Kochi, while the remaining grades also gained smartly following increased demand from various consuming sectors. Rubber futures firmed up further on the NMCE quoting the February contract at Rs 79.08 (78.49), March at Rs 80.60 (79.79 ), April at Rs 82.35 (81.39) and May contract at Rs 83.60 (82.52) per kg for RSS 4. The trading volumes till noon totalled 1443 lots recording 273 lots in February, 794 lots in March, 185 lots in April and 191 lots in May. The February futures for RSS 3 increased sharply to 240 yen (Rs 91.14 ) against 234.9 yen a kg at TOCOM. The grade closed better at Rs 87.74 a kg against Rs 87.52 at Bangkok spot. Spot prices a kg were: RSS-4 : 77.50 (77); RSS-5 : 75.75 (75.50); ungraded : 75 (74); ISNR 20 : 76 (75); and latex 60% : 55.50 (54.40)
