Hyderabad , Jan. 29

THE Southern United States Trade Association (SUSTA), a non-profit organisation comprising Departments of Agriculture of 17 southern States of the US, will roll out American pecans into the Indian market.

The association has roped in Imports2India Consulting (i2i) to carry out the task of marketing and promoting the nuts in the Indian market.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr John Curry Key, Assistant Director (Department of Agriculture of Alabama), said that Alabama, an important producer of pecans, peanuts and soyabeans, was keen to focus on the Indian market with its innovative agriculture products.

"India relaxing barriers on food imports is very encouraging for US food producers," he said. Products such as beverages and sauces would follow pecans.

"We do not force these products on the local market. We will see to it that they go well with the local food items," he said.

The association has roped in well-known chef Vaishali Sood as brand ambassador to promote US southern cuisine in the country.
