Egg price hiked to Rs 1.20

G. Gurumurthy

Coimbatore , Jan. 30

STABILITY appears to have been restored in the layer egg market, which witnessed severe pressure on procurement price for about two weeks post-Sankaranti festivities.

The price review committee of the National Egg Coordination Committee (NECC) in the Namakkal zone, which closely monitored the market movement of table eggs in the past one week, on Monday hiked the farm-gate rates by five paise to Rs 1.20 an egg.

Last week, NECC review meet raised the rate twice to take it from the season' sharp slump of one rupee to Rs 1.15 a piece.

Sources close to NECC said the committee had decided to hike the rate considering the improved consumption noticed in the market, which has also begun to feel an improved market sentiment.
