Stress on rubber exports

Our Correspondent

KOTTAYAM: Only by exploring the potential of the international market and enhancing the volumes of export in a big way could the rubber producing industry move forward, the Revenue Minister, Mr K.M. Mani, said.

Considering the global production and demand of natural rubber there are possibilities for better prices during the next three or four years. But it should not be considered as permanent, he said while inaugurating the annual meet of the IRDF and National Convention of Rubber Dealers here.

Inaugurating rubber brokering under the auspices of IRDF, the Chairman Rubber Board, Mr Sajan Peter, said India is the only country in the world to give 95-98 per cent of the market price to rubber growers. Rubber dealers play a dominant role in this.

In his keynote address, the Irrigation Minister, Mr Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, stressed the need for effective communication and mutual trust between the Government and the trading community. Mr George Valey, President, IRDF, and Mr C.J. Jose Mohan, AGM, South Indian Bank, also spoke.
