Mumbai , Feb. 1

TNT, global provider of mail, express and logistics services, on Wednesday announced the launch of its domestic services in India.

The company will be investing 100 million euro ($121 million) in the Indian market over the next five years.

The India plan of TNT is in line with its global strategy of focusing on building networks in emerging markets.

This makes TNT the first multinational brand in India to offer both international and domestic services using an integrated air and road network.

The company is targeting to become the market leader in the country by 2010.

TNT is attempting to replicate its European network in Asia, by forging network linkages between major markets in Japan, Korea, China and India.

Addressing the media here, Mr James McCormac, Chief Operating Officer of TNT's Express division, said, "India is a country we are all excited about. It has huge business potential and our expansion plan is clearly in line with our strategic intent to focus on and develop in emerging markets.

"We have been operating our international express services in India for the past 12 years. With this launch, we will be able to cater to a large base of customers".

Starting today, TNT India TNT India will offer air network solutions to its customers while the road network services will commence by mid-March. As part of its network expansion, TNT has increased its offices from 17 locations to over 50 locations. The company hopes to take the number to 144 by 2006-end.

"As the economy booms, surface transport will turn out to be the real advantage. TNT's expertise in this segment is clearly established with the successful operation of its European, Asian and Middle-East road networks. TNT's India road network will offer an attractively priced, fast and reliable mode of transport to customers", said Mr Abhik Mitra, Managing Director, TNT India.

TNT's domestic air network solutions will offer `time definite' and `day definite' services. It will also launch two `time critical' services called `TNT Sameday' and `9 am Express'. Both these services - that offer delivery on the same day and at 9 a.m. the next day respectively, will offer money back guarantee.

The branded express market in India is estimated at Rs 2,500 crore, with parcels accounting for Rs 1,500 crore and parcels, Rs 1,000 crore.
