Horticulture/Fruits & Vegetables Australia to raise horticulture exports to India Our Bureau
Chennai , Feb. 2 INDIA has emerged as an important market for Australian horticultural produce and the Australian Government has come out with National Food Industry strategy to increase its horticulture exports to other markets with special focus on India. The "summer fruit" (fresh apricot, nectarine, peach and plum) campaign is part of the National Food Industry Strategy. Mr Glynn Ward, Research Officer, Horticulture Plant Industries, Department of Agriculture, Government of Western Australia, said Australia currently exported A$ 2,36,000 worth of such fruits to India. He said this initiative was to make the fruits more popular in India. He said the fruits would be made more affordable to the customers and be priced between Rs 180 and Rs 200 a kg. Currently, the fruits are in the Rs 400 a kg price band. There were also plans to invest about Rs 5 crore in a cold chain, he said.
