Coconut fibres being twisted at a small-scale coir manufacturing unit in Ayakudi near Madurai in Tamil Nadu. Coir exports have registered a marginal rise in terms of value during the first nine months of the current fiscal. Coir exports totalled 97,168 tonnes valued at Rs 363 crore compared with 87,020 tonnes worth Rs 354 crore during the same period a year ago.
