Phoenix Soft unveils Technopolis initiative

Kolkata , Feb. 5

PHOENIX Software Ltd, on Sunday, unveiled details of its Technopolis initiative, stated to be India's first LEED- (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Deign) certified IT infrastructure project being set up here. It is set to emerge as the first project in the world to be registered under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change as a Clean Development Mechanism project.

Being set up at an investment of Rs 115 crore, Technopolis has been designed and developed in accordance with guidelines laid down by the US Green Building Council. By virtue of being a green building and adopting energy-efficient technology, Technopolis would save up to around 35 per cent in energy consumption. This would contribute to an indirect reduction in emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, thereby making the project eligible to earn carbon credits, Mr Rahul Saraf, Director of Phoenix Software Ltd, told a news conferencehere.Mr Saraf said the "income from carbon credit" would act as an incentive for real estate developers to look at energy consumption more seriously. Technopolis, by saving 2 MW of power on every 12-hour basis, would earn Certified Emission Reductions.

The incremental "green cost" of the project, especially on the air conditioning infrastructure, has been Rs 8.70 crore. "The savings generated thereby would be around Rs 50 crore in the next 10 years", he said.

Mr Saraf said talks were under way with several IT companies which have evinced interest in occupying space in Technopolis, scheduled for completion by June.
