Academia urged to discuss policy issues on banking

THE Reserve Bank of India organised a discussion on `Trend and Progress of Banking in India' here on Monday.

Inaugurating the discussion, Dr N. Krishna Mohan, Regional Director (RBI) for Kerala and Lakshadweep, highlighted the consultative process evolved by the RBI for policy formulation and emphasised the need to discuss the policies and issues on banking and other related sectors by the academia and other sections of society.

The discussion was organised to widely disseminate the developments in banking for the benefit of college lecturers.

Dr P.D. Jeromi, Assistant Advisor, made presentations on financial sector reforms, latest developments in banking policies and financial performance of commercial banks. It was noted in the discussion that financial performance of commercial banks had improved since the introduction of financial sector reforms.

Participants appreciated the regional office of RBI in organising the discussion and suggested to conduct similar programmes.

Mr P. Aravindakshan, General Manager, Kochi office and Mr A.K. Ramachandran, AGM also spoke.
