ISMT hikes liquid metal capacity

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Feb. 7

ISMT Ltd on Tuesday informed that its steel division has increased its liquid metal capacity to 3,00,000 tonnes per annum by producing 19 "heats" in a day as against the average of 14.5 for the first nine months of the ongoing fiscal.

The increase has been attained largely through process improvement with marginal capital expenditure.

"The plant was initially set up for a capacity of 1,90,000 tonnes per annum and has been able to achieve increasing levels of utilisation through de-bottlenecking of the capacity by way of implementation of technology and systems improvements," an official statement said.

According to it, the increase in capacity would also be able to meet the raw material requirement for the 20 per cent rise in tube output envisaged for the current year. ISMT is an integrated manufacturer of precision seamless tubes and alloy steel.
