BCCI to issue fresh marketing tender

Our Bureau

Following the SC order, BCCI feels it was appropriate to issue a new tender rather than just modify the existing one.

New Delhi , Feb 7

THE Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has withdrawn the Revenue Management Company (RMC) tender issued for the appointment of a company to market cricket telecast on Doordarshan.

In a statement, Mr Lalit Modi, Chairman of the Marketing Sub Committee of the BCCI, said, "The recent ruling of the Honourable Supreme Court in regard to broadcasting rights on Doordarshan has changed the dynamics of the situation, and as a result BCCI felt it appropriate to issue a fresh tender. Keeping with its principles of absolute transparency and providing a level playing field to all prospective bidders, it was appropriate to issue a new tender rather than just modify the existing one."

Doordarshan has not been happy with BCCI's decision to appoint a marketing agent and has written to the Board on this.

While details on why a new tender was being floated were not available, recently Prasar Bharati agreed to carry Ten Sports feed of the ongoing India-Pakistan series, along with the private broadcaster's logo and ads, on payment of Rs 15 crore.

With regard to the tender issued for inviting production companies, Mr Modi said three companies had completed formalities. These would be scrutinised tomorrow and the financial bids opened in front of all the bidders on February 9, 2006 in Mumbai. He said that the global media rights would have many more bidders that would be awarded next week.

The three companies that normally produce cricket are IMG, World Sports Group and Nimbus.
