Life insurance

This is with reference to, "Life insurance premiums up 51 pc in 9 months," (Business Line, February 14).

LIC has covered 209 per cent more lives. And the Ernakulam division deserves appreciation for retaining the top position in respect of first premium collection among the 100 divisions in the country. Competition has brought about immense improvement in servicing, business and penetration.

Much remains to be done if India is to attain global standards.

This can be achieved only by introducing new products to suit the needs of the people, better penetration of suitable types of policies in the rural areas and making it attractive for the urban elite to take insurance cover.

A. Jacob Sahayam
