Tea Prices firm up at Kochi tea auction Our Bureau
Kochi Feb. 19 , IN the wake of production shortfall reported from Kenya and active interest by exporters, tea prices firmed up across all segments at the Kochi tea auction. There was 10,15,000 kg dust tea on offer at the auction. High priced CTC varieties remained fully firm to dearer by Rs 2 - 3, while medium and below medium varieties fetched Rs 4 - 5 higher. The best CTC dust varieties quoted between Rs 58 and Rs 70, medium CTC at Rs 50 - 57, while below medium realised Rs 42 - 48. High grown BOPD were quoted at Rs 130, medium BOPD were not quoted at all, while secondaries fetched Rs 33 - 35 and residuals Rs 32 - 33. With better demand from exporters, CTC leaf varieties were quoting higher by Rs 4 - 5. Best Nilgiri leaf varieties were quoting between Rs 57 - 75, medium orthodox at Rs 38 - 45, and plain orthodox at Rs 35 - 38. Best CTC leaf fetched Rs 48 - 50, while medium CTC varieties were at Rs 43 - 47.Kodanad BOPD dust got Rs 130, Pasuparai FD at Rs 87 and Pasuparai SFD at Rs 82. In the leaf category, Quinshola FOP quoted the highest at Rs 187, Chamaraj OP at Rs 127 and Kodanad BOPF at Rs 112.
