German delegation to visit Kolkata

Our Bureau

Kolkata , Feb. 19

A 10-MEMBER delegation of businessmen and experts on mining, steel and engineering industry from the federal State of Saarland, Germany, is scheduled to visit the city early next month with an objective of exploring the potential of mining, steel and engineering sectors in India. They have specific plan to closely interact with local business units for joint ventures and strategic business alliances.

The visit is organised by the Central Office for Productivity and Technology Saar (ZPT) and supported by the Indian office of German Engineering Federation (VDMA). It is explained by a VDMA source that Saarland is one of the sixteen states of the Federal Republic of Germany, bordering France in the south and south-west side and Luxemburg in the west.

In fact, Saarland has a strategic location advantage because of its central position within Europe. In terms of European Union (EU), about 50 per cent of EU's Gross National Product is generated within a radius of 560 km of the state capital, Saarbrucken.

It is pointed out that considering the far-reaching and successful economic changes that are going on in Saarland, it is worth taking a closer look at the economic region of the federal state — both as a source of competitive business partners and as a central business hub within Europe.
