Minimum wages announced in Kerala

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has fixed the minimum wages applicable for labour in the plantation sector covering tea, rubber, coffee and cardamom.

Accordingly, the minimum basic wages payable for a labourer putting in the prescribed number of hours in tea plantations will be Rs 40.28 (adults), Rs 30.21 (adolescents) and Rs 42.60 (for those employed in factories).

In rubber plantations, the minimum wages payable are Rs 51.08, Rs 38.31 and Rs 54 respectively for the three categories, subject to a daily basic minimum of Rs 30.86.

In the coffee sector, the basic wages will be Rs 39.93 and Rs 29.95 for the first two categories. Those who manage to pluck coffee berries weighing more than 70 litres will be eligible to get 58 paise for every litre of berries plucked.

In cardamom plantations, the basic wages will be Rs 40.28 and Rs 30.21 for the first two categories.
