Bangalore to be Volvo's hub for Asia

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Feb. 21

VOLVO has chosen Bangalore as its hub for truck product development and for sourcing of components for Asia.

Volvo's product development unit, 3P, will focus on building India as a base for truck development aimed at supporting strategic expansion in Asia, while Volvo IT will increase its local sourcing from the country as well as support its growing customers' business, a press statement from the company said.

The decision to choose Bangalore is based on proximity to the Asian market, a qualified English-speaking workforce and the fact that Volvo's existing business operations are located in the city, the statement said. "The Volvo Group's business is expanding in Asia and we see the strengthening of our activities here in Bangalore as way to support this growth," Volvo 3P product development senior Vice-President, Mr Anders Ydergard, said. On Tuesday, Volvo also opened its new technology centre. The centre will support the group's IT and truck development programme.

The Volvo's IT division in India focuses on providing IT services to the Volvo Group, Volvo Car Corporation and other external customers and is also the hub for Asia for competitive sourcing.
